European Exchange Programmes

EU Lifelong Learning Project (formerly, Socrates) - http://ec.europa.eu/education/index_en.html - is a European Union funded programme, which supports all sorts of different educational partnerships and schemes, including:

Erasmus - http://www.erasmus.ac.uk/ - enables students in 31 European countries to study for part of their degree in another country. The online Erasmus UK Course Guide will help you to find information on Scottish institutions and courses that offer an Erasmus experience. The Erasmus Student Network web site is also very helpful: http://www.esn.org/.

Tempus - http://ec.europa.eu/education/programmes/tempus/index_en.html - targets people from the Balkan countries, Mediterranean partner countries and Central Asia, giving students the opportunity to learn about other cultures outside the EU. In each EU Member State, a National Contact Point offers advice and assistance to prospective and current Tempus projects. In Tempus partner countries, the EU is aided by National Tempus Offices that facilitate partner search and provide information on Tempus in their countries.

Erasmus Mundus - http://ec.europa.eu/education/programmes/mundus/index_en.html - offers scholarships that enable non-European students from any country to participate in Erasmus Mundus Masters Courses in Europe, provided that they have a first degree awarded by a recognised higher education institution. It also offers EU students funding to study in countries outside the EU.

Erasmus Mundus Masters Courses are high-quality study programmes at masters level offered by a consortium of at least three European higher education institutions. They last between one and two years and lead to the award of a recognised double, joint or multiple degree. Students have to study in at least two institutions. Erasmus Mundus Masters Courses exist in almost all academic disciplines.
