Students From Abroad - Making new friends

Thousands of overseas students, from many different countries, live and study in Scotland. So, you will also find a wide range of organizations representing different national groups in Scotland. They can help you to meet up with other people from your home country and give you advice on meeting the locals. Colleges and universities tend to have clubs and associations for their own overseas students.

What is the typical Scot like? We’re glad to say there is no such thing. However, we like to think of ourselves as friendly, hospitable, generous and yet aware of our weaknesses. Living as we do in a four-seasons-a-day country, we love a good moan about the weather!

Here are some resources to help you to find out more.

The AGCAS Scotland website at: http://www.agcasscotland.org.uk/fti/links.php#expat has a useful list of international student resources and expatriate organizations. The list is not comprehensive and is only meant to be a guide for getting started. Contact the Student Union to find out about clubs and societies at your University or College. You can also find out more by visiting the individual university or college web sites.

Host UK

Host UK works with international students, who are studying at UK institutions, to give them a short visit in a British home. All of their hosts are volunteers who enjoy meeting people from other cultures and places.
